ADHD / ADD – Healing Treatments, Not Drugs

June 20, 2008

Attention Deficit Hypeactivity Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder aka ADHD and ADD are 2 of the most commonly diagnosed conditions in children.  These are “behavior” disorders, yet doctors treat them with medications.  Does that mean that controlling people’s actions with drugs is the agenda of modern psychiatry?  What about exploring the factors that lead people to act in dysfunctional ways and help those persons resolve those issues?  Extensive research has shown that medicating children for ADD/ADHD has no long-term benefits.  I’ve worked as a counselor in Miami and seen children frequently further impaired by being medicated.  Natural therapies that address diet, nutrition, allergies, stress management, exercise, neurofeedback, brainwave entrainment, heart rhythm coherence, energy healing, acupressure, and homeopathic treatments all have demonstrated safe ways to help balance individuals who have been labeled ADHD and allow them to manage themselves in more functional ways without having drugs control them.  I have written an analysis of this at  and encourage everyone to carefully consider the issues involved.  Many ADHD labeled children are very intelligent and/or creative, they are those who would follow their own spirit and question misguided authority, yet these potential leaders and innovators are being drugged into submission and taught to regulate their mood and energy level with drugs.  We need to help these children feel valued and accepted, to promote their talents and help them ground themselves so they can focus their attention more narrowly when needed, but not lose the ability to cast their attention across a wide net to pick up on things that other people may not be aware of.  The more pressure is put on them the more they naturally (subconsciously) feel inclined to tune out the adults and demands that surround them.  Drugs just temporarily put a block upon what the subconscious is generating and confuse the biochemical balancing system in the body.  Ritalin, Adderal, Concerta, Dexedrine, Strattera, and other medicines used to “treat” ADHD have become common drugs of abuse – they don’t foster balance, they just offer a chemical cover-up and cover-ups are commonly addictive, because they involve giving power to something external to control our mood – which could be a drug, a relationship dependency, a risk taking behavior, or even food.  Learn more about how we can bring genuine healing to challenged children and you will be grateful for the time you’ve spent doing so.
